Mark StevensWow! Can it possibly be October already, where does the time go?

This month marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur, or the feast of atonement. My "goya" understanding of this Holy Day is to ask forgiveness from our fellow man, in order to receive forgiveness from God. It is marked by fasting for 24 hours from sundown Sunday October 1st until sundown Monday October 2nd. The individual makes a personal sacrifice as a means of cleansing the body of the material world, and opening the heart to humbling oneself to those that he or she has wronged in the past year. What a wonderful tradition, and something we should all keep in mind in our daily lives.

We are celebrating Yom Kippur by offering a a special coupon on our great Mariel Hemmingway Sandwich.

October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In recognition, we are donating $500.00 to The Center for Women and Families as our way of atoning for the domestic violence that affects far too many families in our community. If you would like to help, contact Denise Troutman at The Center for Women and Families at 581-7200. Denise is the new President and will be glad to take your help in whatever manner you choose.

All the Best, Mark
