Mark Stevens I believe it was Frost who said," Nature's green is gold, its hardest hue to hold. Her early leafs a flower; but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief. So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay."

I love this poem on so many levels, but at its most basic it captures the fleeting moments in life that are so easily missed.

Soon it will be spring, and you will wake up one morning and see the iridescent green of the first bud break. The green is so intense that it casts a halo around the whole tree. The smell in the air is also fleeting, it only lasts but a few days and then it's gone.

Almost instantly your soul is filled with the sense of a new beginning, the promise of reinvigoration. You can feel your heart blossom.

I met a man the other day who spoke to a civic group I am involved with. He is 67 years old and said that he wakes up each day realizing that he will never be able to live this day again, therefore he lives each day as if it was his last. What can he do with this day to impact the world in a positive way. Though not original, it hit home with me. Life is as fleeting as nature's first green, just a hint of brilliance and then it's gone.

It is in that spirit that we welcome you to spring, and hopefully we can make our deli a community place for you to come and enjoy your friends and family.

Mark Stevens
